Description

This object is a spiral galaxy located 60 million light-years away in the constellation of Boötes. It is the only galaxy brighter than magnitude 11.0 in the constellation. The galaxy is about 70,000 ly in diameter and is seen at an angle of about 65 degrees.

This galaxy exceeded my expectations because of the clear detail of the bluish star clusters and pinkish HII regions. In particular, I am fascinated by the 6 bright regions which immediately circle the galaxy core. I thought at first that these were processing artifacts of some sort, but after examining carefully, I think they are really there. I haven't seen this in a galaxy before. They look to be intense star forming regions close to the core.

A number of other smaller interesting galaxies are seen in the image, especially the galaxy to the left which looks like a barred spiral with an outer ring.
